Ford MyKey will add option to block explicit radio programming
Ford has announced it will add the option to block explicit satellite radio stations and enable more top speed restrictions to vehicles equipped with its programmable MyKey technology. Aimed at providing parents with more control when their unaccompanied young drivers are behind the wheel, MyKey currently provides the option to limit top speed to 80 mph, limit radio volume, and mute it altogether until safety belts are fastened. The new features will block reception of more than a dozen radio stations deemed explicit by satellite radio provider Sirius, and enable additional top speed limit choices of 60, 70, or 75 mph. Introduced in the summer of 2009, MyKey is now standard on most Ford and Lincoln models. Once the transponder-equipped key has been programmed, the system remembers the specific settings and limitations for that key every time it is inserted into the ignition. The additional features are due to roll out first on the Ford Taurus and Explorer in late 2011, and will follow on a variety of Ford and Lincoln models. ?Jim Travers
